First Call for Papers

Conference on Intelligent text processing and Computational LINGuistics

GENERAL INFORMATION

The conference is intended to the exchange of opinions between the
scientists of different countries in the growing area of computational
linguistics and intelligent text processing. We do not refine to this or
that particular area of this science. Our idea is to get a bird's-eye view
of the state of art in computational linguistics.
The conference is held by Center for Computer Research of National
Polytechnic Institute (CIC-IPN). National Polytechnic Institute is one of
the largest institutes in the world, over 120000 students. Center for
Computer Research is recently created center of this institute that is now
one of the leaders in research in different areas of computer science.
The conference will be held in Mexico City, Mexico, from 15 till 20 of
February, 2000.
One of the exciting things at the conference, of course, not counting the
conference itself, is its cultural program that includes excursions to the
ancient Indian pyramids and visiting a unique nature phenomenon - Monarch
Butterfly wintering site where there are millions of insects on several
square kilometers.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited by, the following topics, as
long as the topic is presented in computer-related or formal description
aspects:
* Morphology
* Syntax
* Semantics
* Discourse models
* Representation of linguistic knowledge
* Text generation
* Computational linguistic theories
* Document classification and search
* Text Mining
* Natural language interfaces
* Dictionaries for text processing and generation
* Statistical methods in computational linguistics
* Corpus linguistics

In particular, papers on the following narrower themes are especially
welcomed:
* Subcategorization
* Anaphora resolution
* Generative Linguistics
* HPSG
* Meaning - Text theory

PUBLICATIONS

All the accepted papers will be published in CICLing-2000 Proceedings
volume. Extended versions of selected papers will be also published in the
book titled Computational linguistics: state of the art and applications by
IPN Publishing House, Mexico, and/or in the International Journal
Computacion y Sistemas.
Notes: The title of the book is tentative. The editor of the book keeps the
right to propose the size and the necessary changes for each article
individually, and also to select the articles taking into account
consistency and coverage of the book.

REGISTRATION

Registration fee is $100 (US dollars) paid on site (registration fee for
students is $35). A limited number of reduced registrations for students,
participants from underdeveloped countries and local participants will be
available. To apply, please contact the organizing committee at
cicling@cic.ipn.mx and justify your application.

IMPORTANT DATES

* November 12, 1999: Paper submission.
If you have any doubts on whether your paper is relevant for our conference,
we encourage you to send us an abstract or title of your future work. Please
allow us one week to answer you after we receive your abstract. Note that in
any case the full version of the paper is to be sent by the date above.
* December 3, 1999: Notification of acceptance.
* January 4, 2000: Camera-ready manuscripts.
This is a firm deadline and it cannot be extended. We do not guarantee
publication of any paper received after this deadline.
* February 15 - 20, 2000: Conference.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Paper size: up to 14 pages.
Paper language: English or Spanish. Still in case of Spanish the abstract is
required in English .
Font: Times New Roman 12 pt. or similar.
The paper should contain author's name, affiliation, address, and e-mail.
The paper should have an abstract in English not less than 150 words and not
more than 300 words.
File format: MS-Word 97 or PostScript. To avoid technical problems, you are
encouriged to send us both a PostScript file and your source file, e.g.,
MS-Word, TeX with all necessary style files, etc. If you have difficulties
preparing a PostScript file, please contact us.
We accept only electronic submissions. Please send your submissions to
cicling@cic.ipn.mx as attached files with the word "Submission: [your name
y/o title of your paper]" in the Subject field.
