GURT 2004 Comparative and Cross-Linguistic Research in Syntax, Semantics, and Computational Linguistics Georgetown University, Washington, DC March 26?28, 2004 http://complingtwo.georgetown.edu/~gurt/GURT.html The Georgetown University Round Table on Languages and Linguistics (GURT) is an annual linguistics conference that has been held at Georgetown since 1949. It began as a gathering for discussions of issues in all fields of linguistics, and over time has developed into a more specialized forum. This year GURT will focus on the fields of syntax, semantics, and computational linguistics. GURT 2004 will include both invited presentations and submitted papers. We welcome any topics in syntax, semantics, and computational linguistics, as pursued from a comparative or cross-linguistic perspective. We are particularly interested in submissions in the following areas: o The syntax and semantics of clause types o Syntactic variation across varieties of English o The internal structure of the noun phrase o Negation, negative polarity, and negative concord o Tense and aspect in formal and/or computational semantics o Microvariation in the left periphery of the clause o Linguistic typology for machine translation These areas are of special interest to faculty and students at Georgetown, and we anticipate that there will be special sessions devoted to them. SUBMISSION INFORMATION: We solicit submissions for 30 minute presentations followed by 10 minutes of discussion. Abstracts should be no more than 2 pages (1,000 words) in length, including examples and references. * Deadline for receipt of abstracts: October 30, 2003 * Notification of acceptance: December 15, 2003 All abstract submission will be done electronically at the above web address.
