Call for Papers APPLIED INTELLIGENCE The International Journal of Artificial Intelligence, Neural Networks, and Complex Problem-Solving Technologies Special Issue on Text and Web Mining (http://textmining.krdl.org.sg/APIN/TWMcfp.html) Submission deadline: 15 January 2001 OBJECTIVES Text mining and web mining are two emerging and interrelated fields. Text mining is concerned with the management of very large document collections and the extraction of hidden knowledge from text-based data. Web mining refers to the analysis and mining of all web-related data, including content, hyperlink structure, and access statistics. With the popularity of World Wide Web, the vastness of on-line accessible information has opened up a host of new opportunities. At the same time, it accelerates the need for new tools and technologies for textual and web-based content management and information mining. Text and web mining are interdisciplinary in nature, spanning across such fields as information retrieval, natural language processing, information extraction, machine learning, database, and visualization. This special issue in Applied Intelligence aims to bring together a collection of high quality papers describing original research works and innovative applications in these exciting areas. PAPER SUBMISSION We welcome high quality, original contributions covering any aspect of text and web mining, including but not restricting to the following * Theme extraction and text categorization * Document clustering/visualization * Information extraction from unstructured/semi-structured data * Knowledge discovery from textual databases * Use of domain knowledge in text mining * Multilingual text mining * Personalized content filtering * Web content mining * Web structure analysis * Web warehousing * Text and web mining applications The submissions should be no longer than 36 pages including all tables, figures, and references. The format should be for A4 paper with a Times Roman font set at 12 pt with 1.5 line spacing. Text should have a 2.5cm (1 inch) margin on all sides. Electronic submission of Microsoft Word, PDF, or plain postscript documents are encouraged as email attachments sent to ahhwee@krdl.org.sg. The submission should also include a clear text version of the title, authors, and abstract. All submissions will be reviewed on the basis of relevance, originality, significance, soundness and clarity. Three anonymous referees will review each submission to ensure a high standard of quality. Applied Intelligence is published by Kluwer Academic Publishers.
